Our Philosophy

Impossible-to-forget wines

We strive to produce wines of uncompromising excellence and distinction. Wines that open hearts and engage minds. Wines that are powerful, yet graceful and balanced.

Wines that reveal the passion and uncompromising craft that went into their creation. Wines that speak of place—of limestone cliffs, ocean fog, and the unique terroir of Mt. Carmel Vineyard.

"The vineyard calls the shots. We just try to listen and get out of the way."

Fifty miles northwest of Santa Barbara, on a steep, south-facing cliff, a short few miles from the Pacific Ocean, Mail Road meets its end at the geographic center of The Sta. Rita Hills AVA.

Established in 1989, Mt. Carmel consists of six blocks over 22.5 acres, planted to a variety of own-rooted, organically and principally dry-farmed, heritage chardonnay and pinot noir clones.

The wines produced by Mt. Carmel fruit are remarkable in their expression of site—marked by deep concentration, exceptional depth, structural complexity and bracing acidity.

Press & Recognition

"These are pure, crystalline, focused wines that still bring beautiful depth of fruit and concentration. They're some of the best out there."

Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

"A quintessential Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay that has a pure, layered, medium-bodied profile with high yet balanced acidity."

Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The wines produced by Mt. Carmel fruit are remarkable in their lean toward site specificity."
